8. "Mad River," John Sandford's New Novel....

...featuring Virgil Flowers, Minnesota criminal investigator/muskie fisherman/serial divorcee. This one isn't quite as funny as the previous Virgil novels---it's more of a police procedural, involving the pursuit of some young mass murderers. It took me a while to get this book from the library: by the time I reserved it, there were a hundred people ahead of me. I hope there's a Virgil movie in the works, and that it does the character justice.
