YA fantasy in Tortall, although the Beka Cooper books seem to me closer to mainstream fantasy than, say, the Alana books.

In an odd twist of fate, it turns out that Tortall (and Circle of Magic) is something that someone my 23 year old daughter is "internet dating" and I have in common. Fun YA reads, but really nice if you catch one of Bruce Colville's "Words Take Wing"/"Full Cast Audio" renditions of them. Well, frankly, anything I've listened to of theirs over the years has been fun. They started out doing BC's own stories and Jane Yolen's and kind of grew from there. Similarly we started out listening when the the girls were preteens and kept going from there.

Audio: _Last Act in Palmyra_ by Lindsey Davis. Falco #6. Falco and Helena Justina head east, getting kicked out of Petra and hooking up with an acting troupe in the Nabatean empire. I've always loved the pictures of the entry to Petra...seems like it should be the most mysterious place ever.
