They never wanted to pay for the necessary surrounding pieces and Trout is injury-plagued.

As for Ohtani, 25 may not seem old for a major league debut, but when you compare that to Barry Bonds at 21, Pete Rose at 21 and Willie Mays at 22, you can imagine the difference three or four seasons in a player's early prime can make in reaching elite milestones.
