SF Giants a win away from championship after Bumgarner gem [View all]
The Giants and their fans bid one another adieu Sunday night, the final home game of 2014 in the books. The question now is whether they will meet against next spring in Arizona or next week in a parade down Market Street.
They shared a happy farewell because of the best pitcher in this postseason, or many other postseasons, gave the San Francisco fans one more thrill for the road.
Madison Bumgarner pitched the first World Series complete game and shutout by a Giant in 52 years in a 5-0 victory against the Royals that left his team on the doorstep of a third title in five seasons. The Giants lead the best-of-seven Series three games to two, with Games 6 and 7 scheduled to be played in Kansas City.
Bumgarner added another gem to a nearly impeccable World Series resume, throwing a 117-pitch four-hitter as he became the third man to start six games in the same postseason.
