Giants crushed by Dodgers Sandoval pitches perfect inning
There is no better metaphor for the Giants' roster plight this week than that overworked little Dutch boy running out of fingers as he tries to plug every hole in that poorly engineered dike.
Some of the Giants' work on the field has been just as futile. Their 15-6 loss to the Dodgers in the opener of Saturday's day-night doubleheader was not even their worst of the week. They fell 15-2 to the Nationals on Wednesday.
The day was not a total loss for the Giants fans who stuck around till the end. They got to see Pablo Sandoval pitch the ninth inning, the first Giants position player to take the mound since Greg Litton in 1991. And you know what? The Panda was pretty good.
Sandoval hit 88 mph on the gun, mixed in a curveball and threw the Giants only 1-2-3 inning. He got Max Muncy, Yasmani Grandal and Chris Taylor to ground out.
