Year of the Home Run ends with arms race in the World Series [View all]

(AP--10-20-19)

Gerrit Cole, Justin Verlander and Zack Greinke versus Max Scherzer, Stephen Strasburg and Patrick Corbin — all of them All-Star pitchers, still performing at their peak.

It’s a mound meeting that every fan can enjoy, the Houston Astros against the Washington Nationals.

Cole is set to throw the first pitch on Tuesday night in Houston. He led the majors with 326 strikeouts, was second to Verlander in the big leagues with 20 wins and topped the AL with a 2.50 ERA.

So how does it play out? Five or six low-scoring games? It would be paradoxical considering Manfred's obsession with scoring and the year of the juiced ball.

I'll take the underdog Nationals to upset.
