It ended in a 7-7 tie when after 11 innings both teams had no more available pitchers. The tie caused such a stir about the way the game was handled by the managers. Running pitchers out for a hitter or two just to get them in the game.
Accusations that the game was meaningless, players not taking it seriously etc. The next year Bud Selig announced that the winner of the ASG would have home field advantage in the World Series to give the players something to play for and the managers to handle the game differently. It's been that way ever since. I agree it's not the best way to handle it but that's baseball.
