Baseball - Ken Burns [View all]
This weirdly hits home. I grew up in Southern Maine....dad was a Flatbush Brooklyn guy before WW2 and migrated to Maine (his sister and BIL established) after his service (engine room/pocket aircraft carrier). He played a catcher on the company team - I was 1 or 2, so don't remember much.
He made a complete divorce from his childhood home. A place where he saw all of the great musicians and bands/baseball teams of his time.
I really wonder what Dad thought of the Braves in the mid 50's? He was really quiet about his allegiances. Never told me who he voted for, never told me about his religious proclivities, never commented much on modern society (65-75)....had his job manufacturing M-60 machine guns, was proud of his product - as did everyone who worked there.
In the summer of '75 I spent a night having a few beers and a smoke with my dad. Surprisingly, he was totally aware of MJ and seemed to enjoy sharing a joint....it was a very cool connection point for me and my Dad, We spent about 3 hours communicating - really connecting and sharing a lot of pent up frustrations. Me - a recent college grad with no clue and a father that was unwinding his whole life. Then, he died.
Say la vee as they say everywhere.
