1. I find the headline misleading.

It would be like having the headline, "Archdiocese: School with straight teacher can't use Catholic name" if it maintained on its payroll somebody who was flagrantly committing adultery or with a live-in but unmarried opposite-sex partner.

I could be wrong, but I suspect if you read the contract and policies that would also be not living up to the "high moral standards" required, and the archdiocese could without approval. Now, whether or not it actually has in the recent past, dunno. By "recent" I mean the last 5 years, not digging back to an instance from 1923 or 1986.
