What’s so hard to understand about that? The article is wrong about one thing - it’s not just a favorite of Jews and Italians, but if pretty much any European immigrant, especially the generation that arrived just post-WWII.

In our Ukrainian household, they were omnipresent, eaten with harsh black tea for breakfast, or nibbled as an easy dessert any time. I will never forget that taste from my childhood, almondy and mildly sweet and super crunchy.
