2. as an aside, I got to meet Barry Sharpless a few times early in my Pharma career

I ran in to him at a few Gordon Research Conferences in New Hampshire. Definitely a genius.

There was quite an anecdote about him when he was a Dartmouth undergrad (that is where I was a grad student). He had a habit of going into the chemical stockroom and opening up and smelling the various bottles - one time he got a big whiff of something that put him flat on his back - which is how the stockroom manager found him!

I worked with someone who did a postdoc with him when I lived in San Diego. NNadir Oct 2022 #3
