The Geologic Oddity in Arizona; The Wave [View all]



One of the most unique and sought after geologic formations to visit in Ariona is known simply as "The Wave". It consists of more than 100 feet thick of numerous alternating layers of sandstone emplaced during a time period when the American southwest was the site of a dune field larger than seen in the modern Saharan Desert. This video describes how this unique rock formation came to be and what exactly cross-bedding is.
