Reactions are often sterically hindered. The reaction can still occur, but slowed down compared to what theory would suggest. The hinderance is the slowing factor & that's strictly caused by the state of the nuclei & electrons.
I'd be very interested in the potential for scale-up & the energy per unit mass required to fix the quantum states.
I'll to dig for further detail.
