I think our problems today truly stem from humanity's own abuse of mother nature.

We pull millions of barrels of petroleum from deep in the oceans, and from all over the land; we take trillions of cubic feet of gas from below the earths crust; we pump out so much water from the ground, the earth caves in; we put so much pollution into the ocean we destroy vital life there; our carbon emissions acidify the oceans, killing even tiny marine life and coral reefs; we clear-cut forests and mountainsides, then scratch our heads as floods and mudflows crush anything below; we butcher the last few rhinos, because we think ground rhino horn is an aphrodesiac; we have no respect for animal life, until some heretofore unknown virus jumps from there to humans.

I am being kind.

Sometimes I think we don't deserve this beautiful planet.
