I look forward to the day that an open non-believer can run for POTUS [View all]

Perhaps the last barrier, after even race and gender: non-believers (atheists, agnostics) are still not welcome nor trusted to run for national office in these United States. Considering how divisive religion is in this country, one would think that a non-religious candidate would offer a welcome alternative to the status quo. But sadly, that isn’t the case.

Also sad to realize that we are probably still years if not decades away from the time when Americans will accept a non-believer as being as normal and trustworthy as a candidate as a Catholic or a woman or a PoC.

While I celebrate the progress made, let’s not kid ourselves: we still have a long way to go.
