A detailed history and evaluation with a professional will be more beneficial.

There are more than a few symptoms overlap different disorders.

He could have depression or agoraphobia or somewhere on the schizophrenia spectrum. The negative symptoms of schizophrenia can look like depression. Schizophrenia can have negative/and or positive symptoms. The positive symptoms are what most people know about schizophrenia. - hallucinations, delusions. Most people are not familiar with the negative symptoms. Avolition in schizophrenia can be mistaken for depression.

Or could be a personality disorder -

Hopefully you can talk him into seeing someone.


The good thing is, he will not have to leave the house to do it. Most psych providers are doing virtual visits.
