Gun violence triples in Suffolk County, NY... [View all]

Up from three deaths last year to 10 this year. I think that's for 6 months (just hearing it on local TV nooze) Looked for a link, but the good ones are behind a paywall. Anyway, while all violence is dropping in Nassau next door, all violence, including shootings, is way up here.

What to do? It's not easy to get local laws passed, and not just because of resistance-- some things we just can't do on the local level.

However, taking the long view, gun ownership isn't any more pervasive than smoking was years ago, and look what the anti-smoking forces eventually did...

Fighting the Second Amendment might, or might not, be a fool's errand, but consistent pressure on the gungasmic types could do the job. Give gun use, or even ownership, an ick factor. Silly as it sounds, it works.
