I also think another big part is that Biden is clearly more well liked than Hillary (for various reasons), so, there's not as much a need for a second option. Sanders benefited greatly for the anti-Clinton hate that existed in 2016. He certainly has a movement, don't get me wrong, but it's clear that movement is only 30% of the Democratic Party at best. IN a head-to-head against a popular Democrat like Biden, who is offering a reassuring voice in uncertain times, it's much easier for the party to coalesce around him than Hillary.

primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
