Democratic Primaries

(96,043 posts)A party primary is not a 'right', it is a rule in a private, nongovernmental body, which the state assists.
It is your right, and the right of everyone else, to vote in a general election, but the primary is only how a party chooses its candidates, and it could use other ways. By now, the proverbial smoke-filled rooms of hard-eyed professionals look pretty good to me.
The situation is analogous to when an election is called early in the evening, with, say, twenty percent of the vote counted, but one candidate in a solid lead, and persons knowledgeable about the state, with some polling data to hand, conclude that lead will hold. The votes not yet counted at that time are still counted, but have no effect on the outcome. There is no need to sit up with bated breath to see just how every ballot was marked. Instances where these calls do not prove out are rare as hen's teeth.
"When things are not called by their right names, what is said cannot make sense. When what is said does not make sense, what is planned cannot succeed. When plans do not succeed, people become uneasy. When people are uneasy, punishments do not fit crimes. When punishments do not fit crimes, people cannot know where to put hand or foot."
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
