(96,043 posts)When a faction lacks the votes, its influence is what the majority is inclined to grant. If a minority faction seeks to procure more by some extra-parliamentary technique, such as disruption on the floor or threats to behave in a manner it believes injurious to the Party's electoral prospects, it is not incumbent on the majority to placate them, and they may well decide to reply in the spirit of 'publish and be damned' which draws a blackmailer's teeth.
And this does not even engage whether your assessment of relative factional strengths is accurate. I suspect it is not, but even if it were spot-on, that would not alter the case.
