(12,408 posts)My whole point was to explain why I wouldn't dismiss people who see it the other way, because I can see both ways... and I think it is presumptuous for ANYONE to be certain that their interpretation is Right and someone else's is Wrong, when the use of the language can support either perspective.
That's why I never said "I think she meant..." such and such. Instead, I said, "it is not unreasonable for someone to read it that way" and "it is about the ambiguity of communicating in English" and made the case for how one can easily view it the opposite way that you do.
I take no issue with your interpretation at all. What I was saying is that I disagreed with your characterization that anyone who thinks otherwise is gaslighting, etc., because I think the alternate interpretation is also defensible.
