Democratic Primaries
In reply to the discussion: Aaaaaaand the Berners are already attacking Civil Rights icon John Lewis ... [View all]The Magistrate
(96,043 posts)Sanders as a young Marxist student was one of a crowd in a large demostration led by Doctor King to promote integrated housing in Chicago. 'Bernie' had the incredible good luck to be photographed in the hands of two of 'Chicago's finest' being hauled bodily to a paddy wagon. If recollection serves, he was in the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) while in school. What Sanders actually did after breaking with that body was book off to one of the whitest states in the Union in 1968. Apparently, by the way, in good time to avoid any participation in the several extremely active days of the Democratic Convention that year in Chicago.
It's one helluva record. Seems to me he's got Rep. Lewis just beat to a cocked hat as an ardent crusader for Civil Rights. Or maybe just beat upside the head with a billy club --- but that was Rep. Lewis, at Selma, wasn't it? Not 'Bernie'....
"From Bernies perspective, dropping out of a race once you have no chance of winning is peculiar behavior that can only be explained by the work of a hidden hand. For most politicians, though, it is actually standard operating procedure. Only Sanders seems to think the normal thing to do once voters have made clear they dont want to nominate you is to continue campaigning anyway."
"When things are not called by their right names, what is said cannot make sense. When what is said does not make sense, what is planned cannot succeed. When plans do not succeed, people become uneasy. When people are uneasy, punishments do not fit crimes. When punishments do not fit crimes, people cannot know where to put hand or foot."
primary today, I would vote for: Joe Biden
