6. Once, a far-right Republican picked a "no way, gotta be kidding" man to win the GOP Iowa caucus

I've known this guy for almost two decades, and he is a far right nut case extraordinaire. One New Year's, he told me that Rick Santorum would win the upcoming Republican Iowa caucus. I thought he was joking, but he was dead serious. I almost (not quite) told him, "but Santorum is almost as much of a nut case as you are!" He told me, you just watch, I know Republican politics.

He was right, too. Santorum did win Iowa. He faded back into obscurity so quickly after that, it was hard to find a Republican who had thought of him as someone capable of anything more intricate than stirring sugar into coffee. But for that moment, I suppose CNN (and I'm sure Fox Noise) talked of him as if he were the second coming of Reagan. Instead, he wasn't even the tenth coming of Harold Stassen.

If I were to vote in a presidential
primary today, I would vote for:
Joe Biden
