Becoming a U.S. citizen takes years and involves immigrants acquiring a green card, extensive interviews, background checks, classes and a citizenship test. The naturalization ceremony is the final step to the process, where the oath of allegiance and a citizenship certificate are granted.
Immigrants approved to be naturalized went to Faneuil Hall Thursday — known as the country’s cradle of liberty — for that long-awaited moment to pledge allegiance to the United States. But instead, as they lined up, some were told by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services officials that they couldn’t proceed due to their countries of origin.
The same situation is playing out at naturalization events across the country as USCIS directed its employees to halt adjudicating all immigration pathways for people from 19 countries deemed to be “high risk”.
“One of our clients said that she had gone to her oath ceremony because she hadn’t received the cancellation notice in time,” said Gail Breslow, executive director of Project Citizenship. “She showed up as scheduled, and when she arrived, officers were asking everyone what country they were from, and if they said a certain country, they were told to step out of line and that their oath ceremonies were canceled.”............

Jane Fonda Calls Netflix-Warner Bros. Acquisition a ‘Catastrophic Business Deal’ That ‘Threatens the Entire Entertainment Industry’
Jane Fonda is speaking out against Netflix‘s earthshaking move to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, calling the $82.7 billion deal a “catastrophic” development that threatens to “destroy our creative industry.”
Fonda released her statement against the acquisition on Instagram through her Committee for the 1st Amendment organization. She wrote on Friday, “Today’s News that Warner Bros. Discovery has accepted a purchase bid is an alarming escalation of the consolidation that threatens the entire entertainment industry, the democratic public it serves and the First Amendment.”
She continued, “Make no mistake, this is not just a catastrophic business deal that could destroy our creative industry. It is a constitutional crisis exacerbated by the administration’s demonstrated disregard for the law.”
Directing her message to the powers that be, Fonda demanded the Justice Department and state regulators abstain from using their legal standing to “extract political concessions that influence content decisions or chill free speech.” In a sidebar to “Netflix and any company that becomes involved in this destructive deal,” Fonda wrote that it’s their “responsibility to defend our rights, not trade them away to pad your pockets. We know there will be enormous pressure to acquiesce, it is critical you stay strong.”
Hollywood at large has been mostly sour on the Netflix-Warner Bros. deal, with lawmakers, film producers and industry guilds alike all voicing concerns in the last week. Many expect the deal to cause seismic shifts in the entertainment industry, especially in the theatrical sector.

This is the story behind Trafalgar Square’s famous Christmas Tree🎄
Each year, London is gifted a magnificent Norwegian spruce from the forests surrounding Oslo. Towering over 20 metres tall and 50–60 years old, this tree is carefully selected months - even years - in advance. Norwegian foresters fondly call it “the queen of the forest.
The felling of the tree takes place in November during a ceremonial event attended by the Lord Mayor of Westminster, the British ambassador to Norway, and the Mayor of Oslo. After traveling by sea and then by lorry, a specialist rigging team erects the tree in Trafalgar Square using a hydraulic crane. It is then decorated in traditional Norwegian style with vertical strings of energy-efficient lights, signaling the start of London’s Christmas countdown.
This year marks the 78th anniversary of Oslo’s annual gift to London, a token of gratitude for British support to Norway during the Second World War. The tree will stand proudly in Trafalgar Square until 5 January 2026, the Twelfth Night of Christmas, before being recycled.

A Utah judge Friday refused to halt her landmark ruling that struck down the GOP-led legislature’s gerrymander. The decision means the court-ordered, fairer map — which gives Democratic and independent voters a meaningful chance at representation — remains on track for the 2026 elections.
Judge Dianna Gibson denied the Legislature’s attempt to pause her ruling, entirely rejecting Republicans’ claims that they were boxed out of the appeals process.
In the ruling, Gibson wrote that “the Legislative Defendants’ assertion that they have ‘had no opportunity to appeal’ in this case” was unsupported and that lawmakers presented “no evidence to show that they were prevented from appealing” any of the court’s major orders — including the rulings issued on Aug. 25, Sept. 6 and Nov. 10.
The judge went further, noting that GOP lawmakers were responsible for their own delay.
“A simple review of the docket, the parties’ filings, and the audio recordings of the August 29, 2025 hearing and the scheduling discussion at the end of the October 24, 2025 hearing reveals the opposite,” Gibson wrote. “Any suggestion that this Court delayed issuing any ruling to force compliance with the remedial process or to preclude an appeal is unfounded.”....................

FOUR UNIDENTIFIED MILITARY-STYLE drones breached a no-fly zone and flew towards the flight path of Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s plane at sea near Dublin Airport late on Monday night, The Journal has learned.
The plane landed, slightly ahead of schedule, just moments before the incident happened at about 11pm. The drones reached the location where Zelenskyy’s plane was expected to be at the exact moment it had been due to pass.
The drones then orbited above an Irish Navy vessel that had secretly been deployed in the Irish Sea for the Zelenskyy visit.
