The majority of Boeing's subsidies have nothing to do with their DoD production arm and all to do with keeping production in Everett. Blackmail. Kind of the point of the OP I think.

You see, our military kit works quite well. Russia's doesn't. China's is marginal but catching up. There's a cost to being reliable, militarily cutting edge and dominant. And given recent events, we certainly don't want to be NOT be reliable, cutting edge and dominant. We cut our military spending to virtually nothing WW1 to WW2. After that shortsighted disaster, we vowed never to do that again. But maybe we could simply soothe our advisories with kumbayas and woo instead and pray it works this time.

But I get it. Defense contractors are a cartoon "monolith" some love to beat on, while at the same time basking in the warm, safe, comfy bubble they help our military provide. Kind of hypocritical, really. And kind of old .
