(2,471 posts)Republicans won the district by margins over 20% every year since 2012, until 2024 when Boebert won by just 11%. Boebert got just 53% of the vote, by far the lowest Republican share since 2010 when the district was less gerrymandered in favor of Republicans than it is now). That's why Boebert ran there because her old 3rd district is much more balance than the 4th and she probably would have lost there (she won by just over 500 votes in 2022).
Unfortunately for your cousin, living in the 4th district, she's going to have a Republican representative regardless. Once Boebert won the primary, she was guaranteed to win the general election (although it was much closer than previous Republicans in the district won by). She probably won the primary due to name recognition - she only got 43% of the vote but the balance was split amongst a bunch of others. I would guess there is a chance that a "less insane" Republican could beat her in a future primary, particularly if it is a 1-on-1 race. But she's guaranteed to be there for at least the next 2 years.
I feel bad for your cousin and would hate to live in a District represented by Boebert, but I live in the District in PA represented by Scott Perry who is just as bad (albeit not for all the same reasons). I really thought we had him beat this year but he barely squeaked by again.
Good luck to your cousin!
