I still have nightmares almost every night. It steals away part of your humanity and replaces it with fear and mistrust.

At a time when a child's life should be filled with joy and wonder at all the beauty in the world, I (and my siblings) were learning that monsters walked the earth in human form, doing whatever they liked without consequence. And there was no one to stop them.

My mom tried to leave a few times, but dad threatened to kill her right after killing her children, in front of her, and he absolutely meant it.

We kids woke up with the house in flames on three different occasions. We all learned how to climb out the window at the first wisp of smoke.

Anyway, thanks for your kind words, but I really didn't mean to make this about me. Perhaps we'll speak again.
